Decatur House

The Decatur House was the first private residence in President’s Park.  A classic Federal town house built of red brick, the original owners, the Decaturs moved in with high expectations for the new Capital located here and they threw many lavish parties.

After Stephen Decatur’s death, Henry Clay, Martin Van Buren, and Edward Livingston made Decatur House the unofficial residences for secretaries of state from 1827 to 1833, each renting the house while they served that post.

Today, Decatur House is a wonderful Washington, D.C. venue for any type of event.  It’s blocks from the White House in downtown and its elegant courtyard can accommodate a large tent which can adapt to many different “looks!”

President Lincoln’s Cottage

Great D.C.-area wedding & event location: Lincoln’s Cottage! This historic site is not well known–even by locals. But it’s where Lincoln lived for over a quarter of his presidency and made some of his most critical decisions. It is now a wonderful venue for weddings and events.

Sugarplum is proud to be the exclusive tent company at this wonderful site!! During the Civil War, the Lincolns chose to move their family from the White House to the Cottage three summers in a row, in the midst of a war that threatened the country they held so dear. While in residence at the Cottage, Lincoln visited with wounded soldiers, spent time with self-emancipated men, women and children, and developed the Emancipation Proclamation.
