Waterfront Wedding

The Eastern Shore of Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay is a wonderful location for a wedding! With homes, historic properties and elegant venues situated along the bay, rivers, and streams of this majestic region, there are a limitless number of beautiful spots to celebrate those once-in-a-lifetime special moments.

Sugarplum Tent Company always enjoys supporting clients who decide to bring family and friends to these unique waterfront settings. One of our noteworthy Spring weddings was held at a lovely waterfront farm near historic St. Michaels, MD. Planning for the wedding began in 2013 with an anticipated guest count exceeding 350. The property’s main residence sits alongside one of the Bay’s scenic tributaries. For this event, the clients wished to maximize the water views and integrate the tenting with the home and grounds. They also wanted to create an entirely separate area for dancing and an “after-party” within the same tent.

Ultimately, a 50’ x 150’ clear top, structure tent was selected. A large dance/lounge area of 50’ x 50’ was created by using a combination of natural pine plank flooring, hanging café bistro lighting on dimmers, a large stage for the band, an over-sized bar along one wall and soft linen fabric on the tent walls and also between the dance area and main dinner seating.

The remaining 50’ x 100’ foot space was for the dinner; this area featured a lay-down plywood floor with beige carpet, linen fabric on the tent walls, and elegant colorwash lighting of the tent ceiling. Sugarplum also provided entry walkways, ceremony and orchestra platforms for the ceremony, a large catering tent with canopies, a complete power package of a quiet generator with distribution and connections to support the elegant restroom trailer.

Floral design was planned and executed by Washington’s Amaryllis Floral and Event Design led by Nick Watts. Hanging candles and flower displays filled the tent interior and came alive after sunset with dancing lights reflecting off the clear tent.

Attending to the myriad details of this complex ceremony and reception was Susan Dossantos of SDS Events in Baltimore. Susan supports her clients with enthusiasm, a can-do attitude and attention-to-detail in the execution of all of her events. This reception was no exception. For first-class cuisine and all-star service, the client selected Washington’s prestigious catering firm, Susan Gage Catering. Integrated, efficient service of delicious food to 350 guests can be challenging, but Susan Gage’s team executed with clockwork precision. Entertainment and music was provided by Amaretto, the East Coast’s premier high-energy band. Amaretto brought the house down with a super four-hour performance. Every square foot of the warm pine plank dance area was packed once the dancing began. This was an event that family, friends and guest will remember for a long time to come.

Sugarplum Tent Company was proud of its supporting role in this memorable Eastern Shore wedding and reception. Congratulations to all for a job well done and thanks to our wonderful clients for involving us in this important family event.
