Sugarplum Tent Company was the company of choice for the Spring Gala supporting the Washington Ballet. The location: the renowned Residence of the German Ambassador, Dr. Peter Wittig and his wife Mrs. Huberta von Voss-Wittig.
For this elegant affair, Sugarplum installed a 20’ x 120’ clear structure tent on the upper terrace of the Embassy for dinner. As the guest count increased, an additional 10’ x 120’ clear marquee was installed between the building and large outdoor pillars of the Embassy. Both tents, which connected, featured Sugarplum’s wrought-iron candle lanterns. When temperatures dipped late in the week, clear sides and heat were added.
Below the terrace dinner setting and the incomparable view of the DC skyline, steps led down to a large pond and outdoor gardens. This garden area was transformed into the perfect backdrop for Swan Lake, which the ballet company performed this season.Sugarplum added an elevated and leveled floor and a 30’ x 45’ clear structure tent here to cover the performers dancing the White Swan Pas de Deux. Other performances were conducted by Students of THEARC and Dance DC Students.
In keeping with the theme of a “feathered friend,” décor included pigeons in cages swinging from trees, “Cream Puff Swans” for dessert, and swan ballerinas. Guests were greeted at the front door by a flock of young ballerinas, followed by servers with flutes of champagne. The ultimate culinary experience–which included the Puff Swans for dessert–was orchestrated by Susan Gage Caterers led by Chap Gage.
